What's Been Going On + Birthday Memories

Hey everyone! I know it's been a while since I have posted anything; which is because of varies reasons. But I'm back into bloom and there should be some coming over the course of the next week!
Anyway, throughout the month, I was trying to think of some different memories that I would want to share with you all. To be honest, I thought of tons and tons of happy times that I've had, and I wrote myself a mental note each time I thought of one. Bad mistake Hannah! Yes...I have (not completely though) forgotten almost all of the ones that I thought about. That could be a good thing, though, because I think I should really share the memories that are very vivid and special to me on here. But anyways, here are some that I do remember, and these are very special to me and I hope you enjoy.

Memory 11: I don't think I will ever remember the time I read my first mystery book. I think I was nine or ten. I can't remember what the book was called, but, reading it once, I remember very distinctly what happened in the book. This guy went with his friends to live in a cabin out in the middle of no where for a long winter. Well, there had been stories of this creepy man who was wondering around the nearby town who was trying to alarm his surroundings. Now, there was a car who kept appearing in front of this boy's house which just stopped, then left. I remember, while reading the scary parts, I would jump and scream and run out of the room. There were parts in the book about the fireplace moving, or a reserved knocking sound behind a wall, or a bland sound of someone crying in the air of the cabin. Guys, I was so scared reading this book. But, thankfully, I did finish it. At the end of the book, the creepy man broke into the boy's cabin, but he got shot. Don't ask me why I was reading a book like this at age 10...it said from ages 8-12, but I guess some people would figure better judgement. But anyway, I told my dad that he had to read that book, because I knew that  he liked suspensive books like that. But it was a child's a book, so, of course, he didn't read it. Oh well, what a great memory!

Memory 12: So, while growing up, I had a very special friend that I met around age four. Her name was Gracie, and she lived directly behind my house (and still does!) We were the same age, and we played together every day. So one day, out of boredom of playing with barbies, baby dolls, American Girl Dolls, and "house," we conjectured that we were going to do something that would tribute to our friendship. I ran inside my house and grabbed a cardboard shoe box and we put some of our little friendship things in there. I can't remember what the things were that we put in there, but I do remember us writing each other a letter and putting it in there. Then, of course, we buried the box in my backyard. I don't know if it's still there (well, it probably should be!) But at some point, I really hope we can open it together and look at everything we put in there.

Memory 13: As I was starting to get older, (and even now), I would always watch the familiar show, Little House On the Prairie. As some of you know, it's essentially about a young family that lives in a small town...kind of out in the country... and in several different episodes, they and others experience situations involving different wild animals and robbers, etc. For some reason, I was always scared that a lion or bear or something was going to appear at my own house. We have these woods in our neighborhood that my dad would always ride through with his dirt bike, and me, sometimes on the back of it. I hated, hated, hated when we would go through any woods of any sort, because I knew that there were cyotees and wolves that always traveled and lived throughout our neighborhood. I couldn't stand the thought of one chasing after me and trying to eat me. I can still remember some authentic, intense dreams as a child involving these things about me being chased and eaten. Even to this day, I can't simply walk through the woods by myself, for fear of something (or somebody!) coming after me! (Shhhhhhhhhh ;))

Memory 14: I graciously grew up in the kitchen cooking. Simply put. I loved nothing more than creating my own masterpiece. I think I have been cooking ever since I was a few years old: starting when I could just stir a few ingredients together, and now cooking big, unique, fancy dishes that you would see in some alienated restaurant in Southern Asia. I would always liberally flip through my mother's recipe books, looking for something new and yummy that hadn't been made in our home yet. But I couldn't help but ask myself "Where do all of these recipes come from? Do other people create them?" In turn of my realization, I was impelled to actualize my own magnum opus. Recognizing my mother wouldn't very easily commend my doing, I waited until she was asleep before doing it. So when I got my chance, I got a capacious bowl in my hand and flippantly went throughout the cabinets, accumulating any kind of flour, sugar, baking powder, fruits, salts, flaxseeds, milk, eggs, and about anything else you could think of! In the end, I had a monstrous mess of, well, blarg. (Not to mention a very, very large mess!) My mother came downstairs and saw the catastrophe: which included dried flour in sundry places throughout the kitchen, broken egg shells, and various water-ish ingredients spilled on the newly-mopped floor. As some can probably suppose, I was grounded and constrained by my mother to clean everything up. Still, it's such a fun, absurd memory, and I laugh every time I think about it!

Memory 15: Ahh! The final memory! Okay, the one I'm about to share...I hope I haven't already shared it or mentioned it in some Throughout the Years Blog, but here goes anyways. Well, on my dad's side of the family, there was supposed to be this hug family reunion/anniversary for some 24th or something cousins and aunts and uncles. But the problem was, it was in Virginia. My family never, I mean never went traveling. The only couple of times we did was to Florida and King's Island and couple of times. But it was established that we must go to this event. Note this was also the week before my 12th birthday. My mom concluded that she was not about to go on this long miserable car ride with three kids plus a baby. So my dad took my sister, Sydney, and I in our gold minivan. Knowing it would be a long drive, my dad borrowed his friend's car DVD player. I got some DVD's which included Bible Man, Little House On the Prarire, and Charolette's Web. Well, we put in Bible Man, jumped in the car, and drove off to McCdonalds to get some early morning breakfast before our long trip on the road. I situated my own little "table" in front of me, (aka a tall cooler) and put my egg sandwich and orange juice on it. We ate a rode for about forty-five minutes until...BLAH!!!!! Yes...Sydney threw up all over the floor, which, in turn, I, seeing this action, did the same thing. My dad, who was on the phone, threw this device down and grabbed a trashcan and threw it back there. The ironic thing is that the trashcan was right in front Sydney, but apparently she didn't feel like grabbing it. So yes, we threw up all over the place (what a disgusting color to throw up! :/), but we did feel a lot better after throwing up. But we went to Walmart to get some Febreeze and a vaccume cleaner. In the end, we felt better, and things smelled and looked a ton better and cleaner. We turned the DVD player off and turned on a dumb audio book. But the rest of the ride there and back was a happy and clean one. I hope that didn't disgust any of you! ;)

Well, that's fifteen memories for fifteen years of life. Frankly, I don't feel a year older...I still feel quite like a child. According to some, that is probably considered a good thing, but I can't wait to be older for various reasons :) Love you all,

Hannah

How to Get Rid of the Rainy-Day Blues

I generally find that the cold, humid, yucky weather tends to cause people to feel distressed and just plain discouraged. When other people feel this way, it makes me feel the same way! I understand that the weather has a big impact on this, so here I'm gonna give you all some ideas on how to feel better throughout this time of year!

One: Embrace the weather! Maybe it would look like throwing on some yoga pants and a t-shirt with a cup of hot cocoa under your snuggie next to the window and just watching the rain. I find that just looking out the window, escpecially at particular weather, it helps me to be able to think more clearly. Sometimes when I pray, I just look out the window. I don't know what it is about it, but it always feels so good to just look outside at what God is doing! So embrace this kind of weather, weather it means thanking God for the weather, getting all cozy under a blanket and reading a book, or even putting on your bright yellow rain jacket and going out to dance in the rain!

Two: Just dance, gonna be okay, da da doo-doo-mmm. (LOL) Like the song says, just get up off your bootay and dance! Even if I don't feel like it, once I start dancing, I can't stop. It always feels good to me to turn on some great music and feel my body moving.

Three: Turn on an upbeat encouraging song! Get happy thoughts going through your head! Here's some I recommend:
"We are the Champions" - Queen
"Mine" Taylor Swift
"Hero" Mariah Carey
"Hold On" Jonas Brothers
"Whatever it is" Zac Brown Band
"Fighter "- Christina Aguilera"
"Hands and Feet" pureNRG
There's many more but these are just favorites!

Three: Girls: Give your self a giant wacko makeover! Fill up that bath tube with all of you Lush paradise products and exfoliate your body. Get a mask and put cucumbers over your eyes, do something totally different and beautiful with your hair, then put on some of the brightest colors of eyeshadow that you have! You can also put a new nail polish on that you've never used before. That always makes me feel so refreshed and good!

Four: Read your Bible. It can often be suprizing how encouraging it is to just open your Bible to a random page and start reading. The words are alive, and they can really change your heart. Normally after I do a quick read-through, I feel all bubbly and jumpy and happy. I don't know why, it just gives you that kind of feeling!

Five: Take a quick nap. If you feel stressed or upset, sometimes a nap is just calling your name! You will most likely feel so much better when you wakeup, and you'll be more motivated to do the things that you've been meaning to do!

I hope you enjoyed reading these tips! TTYL :)

Countdown to My Birthday: Memories #2

Here I will share with you five more! :)

Memory #6: I remember my first few years of my life being a ballet dancer and tap dancer. I used to think I was the most beautiful princess in the world: my hair all up in a bun, my fluffy pink tutu, and for the first time in my life, my mom put makeup on me! I always used to feel so grown up and beautiful. I dreamed about growing up and finding my prince and us living together in a pretty pink castle. I dreamed about me riding on my white horse throughout a field, expecting my prince to jump out and save me in any kind of horrible situation. I dreamed of me growing up a having my own little daughter and dancing with her. I read my princess books and would always dream about becoming some kind of gorgeous princess.

Memory #7: I can clearly remember watching all of the Shirley Temple movies! I always envied her and I tried to learn her dances. So one day, while driving home with my grandmother, I asked her about Shirley Temple and she said that she used to work with her! I asked her if Shirley was still alive, and she said yes, she lives in the White House. So I asked if I could write her a letter and my grandmother gave me an address. I can't remember what the letter said, but all I know is I didn't receive a letter back! LOL

Memory #8: One time I was out riding a horse that we were renting. I was always so scared to ride, because I was afraid that the horse was gonna take off with me on it! I don't ever remember intentionally going beyond a trot, but I do remember my horse unexpextantly breaking into a gallop! It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life, besides the time the horse decided to chase me across the field, haha.

Memory #9: There was a point in my life where I constantly tossed my cookies several times a week. I think it was around 6th grade. I have always thought it was out of nervousness. But the doctors decided to take me in to test me to see if I had any serious illnesses. I'll tell you this right now: I hated hospitals with all of my heart and soul...I couldn't even look at one! I honestly don't know why, but that's just the way it was. So when we arrived at the hospital for some blood tests, I announced that I felt very, very sick and needed to use the restroom. So I went in the bathroom and sat down on the toilet to pee, and guess what happened? I started to see red stuff int toilet! I could not believe and could not understand why there was blood pouring out of my bottom. It honestly scared me because I heard about people who lost a lot of blood and then died. So I just sat there and cried until somebody came after me. When the doctors figured out what happened, they did a specific test on me (I can't remember what it was) but all I know now is that I never figured out why the blood incident happened!

Memory # 10: One time when I was about 8 or 9, I confessed I was going to run away from home. My parents made me so mad and I decided I was done dealing with it. So I got my little school backpack, gathered some food, water, and a change of clothes and told everyone I would be leaving. I walked out the door and went to the end of the driveway, then suddenly remembered all the little kids who get kidnapped all the time when they're by themselves. So I turned and ran back! LOL

More to come again :)

Singing Randomness

Hey everybody! So I've discovered a new love: music. Now your probably rolling your eyes, like thats totally been my love for all of my life, but I'm talking about "creating" music. I recently wrote several songs and then played them on the piano and sang. I am just now getting the hang of opening the back of my throte and using my diaphram to make really nice-sounding sounds with my voice. Soon I will share with you'll some of my songs that I've written, but first I need to make a few finishing touches. Also, I'm learning guitar, and as soon as I get good, I'll post a video of me performing the songs while singing them and playing guitar. Here are the songs I think my voice would be best suited for:

Love Story - Taylor Swift
Love the Way You Lie - Eminem ft Rihanna
Somebody to Love - Justin Bieber
Holy is the Lord - Chris Tomlin
Airplanes - B.o.B.
Pyramid - Charise ft iyaz
Pray - Justin Bieber
Innocent - Taylor Swift
Baby - Justin Bieber
I Will Follow - Chris Tomlin
This is Me - Demi Lovato
So Small - Carrie Underwood

These are also my favorite songs, and I love switching them around and adding my own tune!

Countdown to My Birthday: Memories

Hey everyone! There has been yet another tag going around where you share some of your favorite memories with your readers. Since I am going to be 15, I'll do 15 memories. I realize that I haven't posted in a while, and normally, I would start these memories on the day that marks 15 days till my birthday, but I haven't been able to get online. So today I will share with you five of my favorite memories of my life, and for the next 10 days I'll share the rest.

Memory #1: I’m a scardy cat, to say the least, and always have been. When I was younger we lived in a two-story house and all the bedrooms were on the second floor, but the kitchen was on the first. At night, I would often be too scared to walk downstairs alone to get a glass of water, so I would beg my Mom to get out of bed and go with me.

Once I was about 12, she told me I was old enough to go downstairs alone. I did not believe her. But, I tried to be a “big girl” and go alone (Mind you, I was 12! That’s definitely old enough to go downstairs alone to grab a glass of water!). I came to the conclusion that I should carry a “weapon” with me in case someone was lurking in the dark corners of our first floor. Carrying artillery gave me peace of mind and I got in the habit of bringing my “ammo” with me every night I made the journey down to the dark kitchen.

About six weeks into my late night expeditions, I was walking down the stairs when I heard footsteps in the kitchen. Of course, the first thing that came to mind was the only logical explanation I could think of… KIDNAPPER! I drew my weapons and pounced around the corner ready to fight off my attacker. My mom was standing over the sink with a plate in one hand and a sponge in the other, completely unfazed by my randomly aggressive entrance. What? I was an imaginative child! Then, my Mom looks at me and starts cracking up. After a few moments, she catches her breath and says, “What is that going to protect you from?” I realized she was mocking my weapon choices…

I looked down and surveyed my ammo: a slipper and a pen. Right, like that was going to keep me safe. In response to my Mom’s question, 12 year-old me responded “I can wack ‘em in the head with a slipper and stab ‘em with a pen!” From then on it’s been an ongoing joke in my family to protect oneself with a slipper and a pen.

Memory #2: I was obsessed with the kid's show Barney until age 12! Pretty much all of my siblings have been crazy about the show except for my sister, Jessie, who absolutely loves Dora and Elmo. But I remember dreaming about being on the show. I was pretty jealous of the kids on there who got to do the dances and singing and arts and crafts. So I decided to do the next best thing from being on the show: I learned all the dances and songs! I would put on preformances of me doing the dances, and I remember I just loved it so much! I would imagine that that was me on the show, that all the little kids would be watching me. It was so much fun and I can still do the dances! :)

Memory #3: When I was about 12, (haha, 12 is a common number in this blog. It was such a big year for me!) I truly, 100% believed that I was going to be a famous country singer. I practiced everyday. My friend also wanted to be a singer, so we made a little band together. Her sister eventually joined, and we would have "band practice" (our band consisting of just a guitar and our voices) and we recorded a couple of songs, including "Amazing Grace." Now, every time I hear that song, I start laughing. We really thought we were going to get somewhere with that! My friend also had a relative that produced music and he was going to schedule us a tour date...no joke! We wrote our own music and everything. It was pretty sweet. It brings tears to my eyes to remember these things! But, unfortunately, my friend and I got into a little fight, and our band broke up :( But overall, it was an awesome experience!

Memory #4: Here's a memory that I will probably never, ever forget. I was around four or five years old, and that year our neighborhood got flooded. I had a best friend, his name was Dylan, and we always played together everyday. So one day, we were wondering around the neighborhood, when we came to a place where it was totally flooded. It was at least 3 feet deep of water! Since it was a fairly hot day, we both decided it might be nice to take a little bit of a swim. So what did we do? We stripped our clothes off! Don't ask me why we do this, but every time we remind eachother  of it, we just start cracking up. But that afternoon we "swam" in our undies that little pond and had a great time. (Not to mention the punishment we recieved from our parents, lol)

Memory #5: This one is a bit of a sad memory. For years I had this dog, half German Shepherd, half something else, but his name was Jack. Guys, this dog was the absolutely best dog that I ever had. He always went to me for everything, I was always the person to play with him, he protected me, we wanted me to feed him, and everything else you could think of. He really was the best dog ever, but except for one thing. He was over protective. He would always attack any men that came close to our house, and eventually, we had to give him away to a farmer. I remember, out of anger, throwing my fists at the wall, and for weeks they were extreamly sore, lol.

More to come! Hope you enjoyed! :)

SHM: Shower, Hair, Makeup!

Lights, camera, action! Every girl has a different routine when it comes to the all-too-familiar process of “getting ready.” Whether it’s for school photos, a hot date (oh la la), hanging around the house, or even a girls’ night out—we all have our own SHM routine.
I told some of you that I would do a blog on my everyday SHM routine. Some people like to re-phrase it as "SMH" because they do their makeup before hair, but I generally take my showers in the morning  so while I'm doing makeup, I can allow my hair to dry a little, to prevent excessive hair damage, of course. :)
First, when I wake up, I usually feel the urge to either brush my teeth or go to the bathroom. I'm not sure why, lol. But after I do that I get in the shower and put two types of shampoos +conditioner in my hair and let it sit while I shave my legs and wash my body. After that, I rinse off and get out and put on moisurizer and lotion, then put on either pajamas or a bathrobe while I do my makeup, then I blow-dry my hair. After that, I get dressed, then go on with my day!

Here are some general tips for anybody who is interested, as gathered by comments and other people:

  1. Do your makeup before your hair so you can let your it air dry a bit before styling. Fun fact: I hear it’s best to blow dry your hair when it’s about 30% dry. Another common tip is wrapping your hair in a towel while you do your makeup, which helps to absorb water faster.
  2. If you use a facial moisturizer, give it time to soak in before covering it up with makeup.
  3. While you’re doing your hair and makeup, go though a mental inventory of your closet and decide what you are going to wear. This will make the getting dressed part much easier!
  4. If you are not a morning person, shower at night to save time in the morning.
